Sand Dragons 3 vs. Longbow FC 0
A great end to a successful season. The Sand Dragons played well touching the ball from the back to the Longbow goal as well as winning nearly every 50/50 ball. After 25 minutes the Dragons had over a dozen shots on and a goal in hand thanks to Sal Esposito who, after being out for three weeks with a red card, scored the first goal. The goal was nicely tucked in by Sal after receiving the ball from Geordie Wood. The Dragons held Longbow at 1-0 for most of the match until Geordie got free on a breakaway. The Longbow keeper fouled Geordie inside the box just as he was going to score. Instead the ball went across the goal to a wide-eyed Al Damas who calmly put the ball into the back of the net as the Ref let the advantage play continue. The final goal came from Geordie himself just after he narrowly missed what would have been a classic header on a long ball from Milton Melo. The Sand Dragons showed why they were the only team to beat the undefeated Blasters as they pressured their opponents throughout the field, at times putting on a one-touch clinic. It was a real team victory once again although the statistics play it out as "the Geordie Wood Show". The season's final Man of the Match award goes to Geordie Wood for outstanding play, having a hand in each goal on Sunday. Thanks to all the players and fans for a successful season. See you at the Banquet!

Sand Dragons had a bye

Vipers 0 v. Payson Futbol Club
2

The Viper squad had the slowest start of the season agains Payson FC. Payson didn't look any more skilled but found net two times in the first half. Goalie, James Cagle made several nice saves but one sneaked into the left side of the net. The second Payson goal came off a PK that occured only minutes after the first goal. After a thorough trashing by Andrew at the half the Vipers regrouped and put in a fair effort in the second. Franklin had several shots but no real test for the keeper. The game ended 0-2, Payson. Noteworth performances were delivered by James, Franklin, Ski and Scott but the player of the game honors go to Flo who really stepped up his play as a defender, carrying the ball forward effectively and winning 50/50s. With only one game left the Vipers left the field looking forward to a strong performance in both halves for the final game of the season against Blarney Old Boys at 10:00am on the 8th of December.

Venom 0 v. Predators 1

The Reds were finally grounded in a 1-0 loss this weekend to the Predators. In a match that was close from the opening minute, the predicted 1 goal difference fell in favor of a worthy opponent. The Red's and Predators met in the regular season, in what was probably the best match of the 2B league, in which the Reds were victorious 2-0. This time however, the results and the championship go to the Predators. 80% of the match took place in the oppositions half, but the Reds were unable to put together a combination to reward our efforts. As for the Predators, they were not in our defensive half often, but created many dangerous opportunities when they managed to push forward. This one has the makings of a great rivalry as both teams are moving up to 2A next season. Fans of the Reds will not want to miss the "rubber match". Neither of us wanted to come out on the losing end of this one, and the match was hard fought till the bitter end. Player of the match honors go to Jimmy Deutsch, who was dangerous often, but had little support to aid his efforts. A little time to lick our wounds and then its time to get back in the trenches lads...Go Reds!!!

I just want to say thanks to all the Venom players for a great season. I know you all wanted the win... we all were cheering and singing for you. You may think todays outcome detracts from your season but look what you accomplished. You all have set the standard for all other teams in our club... a perfect season and a playoff final. It was a beautifully played season and I, and I'm sure others too, enjoyed watching your games. I hope to see more of them next season. From all the members of the Sand Dragons Futbol Club... WELL DONE! GO REDS! - Will

Thanks Will, And in return a huge thanks from all of the Venom squad for such a great turn out yesterday and the great atmosphere created. I think we just about had the whole of the Sanddragons squad out there leading the chorus with great voices, ( well ok the voices do need a little work) but well done Tim for the songsheets it was a great club time and I am sure the way we were on and off the field made several people look up and wish they were part of that. Well done the club we are bulding something very special.
Cheers Andrew

Hello every one good day to you all. I have read the e-mails and I also thank everyone that turned out for our game, it was a great feeling. But we lost and that just sucks. It seemed as if it was too good. A great squad, fantastic fans and a warm feeling from the start to turn so cold so fast. If it were not for our fans I really don't think that many of us would have been smiling. You lads with your energy made it a softer slap in the face. (but the red mark is still their) Again though I would like to say thank you to our supporters thank you to every member of VENOM and SDFC and thanks to the round guy ( andrew ) but a BIG middle finger to the shity ref. THANX FOR A GREAT SEASON GUYS. I LEARNED A LOT THIS SEASON AND LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER RUN................................................... -JASON- :)

Sand Dragons 2 v. Blasters 0
Victory was sweet with the Dragons beating the division's only undefeated team, the Blasters. It was a hotly contested match with both sides fairing with an equal amount of opportunities. The Dragon's defense turned back the Blasters' offensive threats the entire game as Dragons keeper, Goge Johl made several key saves to keep the sheet clean. "A real team effort" was the main post game headline after Tom Uczekaj and Al Damas put away a goal each for the Sand Dragons. Both goals came in the second half. Tom's goal came first with a header into the upper netting and Al Damas fulfilled the half-time attack scheme as he put in one of the many attempts to put him behind the Blasters defenders in a one-on-one situation. The Blasters, although coming into the match undefeated, were helpless and left frustrated as the Sand Dragons kept the pressure on for the full 90 minutes. Brilliant one touch passing out of the back and through the midfield helped the Sand Dragons dominate the play throughout the course of the match. So many players played so well on Sunday making this game the sweetest and best played match of the season vs. the divisions 1st place team. The post-game Man of the Match committee picks Mike Perea as this week's Man of the Match for his aggressive defense and outstanding play which included a goal-line clearance.

John Ridgway scores again!!!!

Venom 3 v. Zacatepet 2
Team Venom, "The Reds", survived another hard fought game in the play-offs and left the field with a 3-2 victory. Our opponents, Zacatepet, stepped up their game and fought for every possession with more heart than displayed in the last game against them. In what seems a recurrent theme, the Venom played down to its opponents level for much of the game before finally breaking thru for the victory. Jimmy Deutsch was a terror for Zacatapet, as they had no answer for his speed and ball control. Jimmy broke thru for 2 1st half goals which spotted The Reds to a 2-1 half-time lead. Zacatepet struck early in the 2nd half when the smallest player on the field won a header in our penalty area and luckily flicked it over Courtney's hand for the equalizer. Team Venom kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a PK when one of Zacatepet's defenders purposely used his hand and deflected a sure goal from Jimmy Deutsch. The play earned their player a red card and put the Venom up 3-2 as Neil Ellefsen made them pay by hammering the PK home. A demoralized Zacatepet team showed their frustration by committing cheap fouls and costing themselves any chance of staying in the game, as the Venom squad stayed in their opponents end and hammered away with many opportunities to blow the game out. In the end, it was a bitter sweet victory, 3-2, leaving The Venom players feeling like something was missing, and itching to play again. Player of the match honors go to Jimmy Deutsch, who time and again left players on the ground trying to defend him, as he won every ball around him and narrowly missed a "Hat Trick". Next weeks championship game is at 10:00AM at McDowell Mtn Ranch. Please show your support as Team Venom looks to secure SDFC's first championship...

Sand Dragons 0 v. Blarney Old Boys 2
It was a hard fought match as the Sand Dragons dropped points to the Blarney this last Sunday. The Dragons started well and maintained control of the play for most of the match as Blarney tried to put something together. Goalkeeper Goge Johl made a couple of key saves. About 35 minutes into the first half Blarney scored a penalty kick on a very questionable call by the referee who was out of position but still made the call. Midway thru the second half the Dragons put together a nice attack which resulted in a goal by Mike Neuman which was subsequently called back by the referee who said it was a hand ball. The Dragons pressured Blarney the rest of the match as Goge had nothing really to deal with, but couldn't put together enough for a score. Blarney scored later in the second half as an unmarked man headed the ball into the Dragon's net from what was probably the only offensive threat of the second half. Players felt it was one of the better efforts this year which unfortunately didn't get the result. With some good passing and control Kiko Fierin was the Dragons man of the match this week.

Vipers 2 v. Mirage 2
Game recap not reported
Goal scorers were John Ridgway & Franklin Young.

Venom 3 v. Centurions 0
"Team Venom wins first Play-Off game in SDFC history". Our club officially in it's 2nd season as SDFC has already made a name for itself with our squad from 2B. The Venom squad, "The Reds", thoroughly outclassed their opponent the Centurions, enroute to a 3-0 win, securing our 5th shutout of the season. The Venom squad controlled the ball thru the entire match with a consistent effort from all positions. Midway thru the 1st half, Paul Grimaldi connected on perfect header into the upper left corner off a corner kick from Scott Peloquin. Set plays, which had been a weakness for the Venom squad suddenly became a strength, as the Venom players created dangerous opportunities off every set play. The 2nd goal came off another set piece as the defense of The Centurions readied themselves for a free kick from Paul Grimaldi and were not prepared for a quick strike from a charging Scott Merrill, which resulted in a rocket from 30 yds out into the lower left corner. A demoralized Centurion team struggled to keep the ball out of their goal area as "The Reds", missed many point blank chances, before Justin McLemore was aided by "Maradona's hand of god", when a loose ball magically happened onto Justin's boot and was blasted past a defenseless goalkeeper. It was another solid performance from The Venom squad who never allowed their opponent a shot on goal in the 2nd half. If not for some bad luck, the score could easily have been much more lopsided. Player of the match honors go to Paul Grimaldi. who roamed the midfield with his usual ease, and controlled the pace of play, never allowing the Centurions offense to get on track. Check in next Sunday as "The Reds" look to advance to the championship match... It's been a hell of a ride so far...

Sand Dragons 3 v. Vikings reUnited 3
The Sand Dragons made their first strike as the opening kickoff whistle was still ringing in their ears. The Dragons took the ball from the center spot as 5 different players passed it down the wing to Al Romero who hit a powerful cross which enabled him to take credit for an own-goal faux paux by the Vikings. The Dragons dominated the play for 90 percent of the game with one touch passing and aggressive play. The Vikings scored 2 unanswered goals. The first, midway thru the first half and the second, in the opening minutes of the second half with the Vikings scoring with "best of a lifetime" type shots. With no subs in the second half the Dragons pushed up into the Vikings 3rd of the pitch with the urging of Lano Torres on the sidelines (out for the rest of the season due to injury). Then 5 minutes later, although showing up late for the game with a bad hair cut and a "I want to be like Lano" go tee, Tom Uczekaj ripped a rocket of a shot from 28.5 yards out to score a killer goal which gave the Dragons new life as they continued to pressure the Vikings. Late in the game the Vikings scored their 3rd goal with the Dragons answering the call with under 10 minutes left as Geordie Wood had a brilliant finish off a studly cross from outside back Colin Smith. Sal Esposito was sent off with a Red Card for unsportsman like behavior just before the last goal. Several players had good games, but the man of the match award this week goes to Tom Uczekaj even though he was late 3 weeks in a row.

Cobras v. Ron J FC

Venom 3 v. FC Nippon 1
Team Venom, "The Reds", finally locked up with FC Nippon for the right to the Title of Regular Season Champs. In a hotly contested game, FC Nippon drew first blood and went into the half with a 1-0 lead. Luckily for The Reds, a fantastic save by Courtney Strange on a PK kept the score from being 2-0. FC Nippon controlled the first half with timely counterattacks that had the Venom defense on its heels. The second half was a different story, as a formation change by the "Reds", allowed them to regain control of the midfield and dominate possession. The Reds were rewarded for their tough challenges and ability to break down FC Nippon's defense with 3 second half PK's. The first was scored by Paul Grimaldi, and the next 2 by James LaBar. FC Nippon's inability to handle the pressure applied by a rejuvenated Venom squad, left them little choice but to foul the Venom strikers when they broke thru the Nippon defense. The game was extremely physical, with many yellow cards handed out, along with Red Cards to players from both teams. It was quite obvious that 2 very proud teams were laying it on the line, and a revenge match is on the horizon as both teams showed themselves to be poised to meet in the play-off championship match. Player of the match is Courtney Strange. His athletic saves in the first half, allowed the team to get back in the match...Next match is on 11/10 and is round one of the play-offs. Mark your calendars gents, it's been a hell of a run so far...

Sand Dragons had a bye

Vipers 4 v. McDowell Mountain Chiro 3
The Vipers entered the win column with a stunning 4-3 victory over McDowell Mountain Chiropractic. McDowell Mountain came into the match with a winning record, but were immediately put on their heals following two early first half goals by Mark "Chambo" Chambers. The first goal was the product of a brilliant crossing pass from Franklin Young. The second goal came when Chambo beat the keeper and the ball trickled in. McDowell Mountain scored a goal late in the first half to make the score 2-1 at half time. McDowell Mountain scored an early second half goal to tie the match, but the Vipers stormed back with a vengence to take a 4-2 lead. The third goal again came off the foot of Chambo giving him the hat trick and Man of the Match honors. Franklin scored what proved to be the game winner with a brilliant shot from about 35 yards out. Franklin saw the keeper off his line and launched a shot from outside that went over the keeper's head. McDowell Mountain scored a late inconsequential goal off of a free kick. Overall the defense turned in a solid effort, limiting the opposition's scoring chances. Special thanks go out to Andrew, who coached the Vipers for the first time this season. The Vipers have a bye next week and look to start a winning streak in their upcoming matches.
Cobras 0 v. Rebellion 4
Cobras finally had some of the players we have been missing all year, and played our best game yet, despite the score, which could have looked a lot different with just a little luck. Down 0-1 at the half, we hit the post once, the crossbar once, and one shot from point blank range that was only stopped when their goalie stumbled into the ball. Another loss, but some definite progress in terms of team play and I think we all walked away disappointed but knowing this will be a good team soon.
Man of the Match is Mike Perea for his hard work at sweeper all afternoon.

Venom 2 v. Europa United 0
Team Venom, "The Reds", recorded their 4th straight shut-out today in a 2-0 victory over Europa United. With the opposition preferring to lay back and pack it in the defensive half, our offense found it tough to get on track. The first half ended 1-0 after a well placed PK by James LaBar. The Reds opened the second half with a goal by Jason Benge off of a corner kick. Team Venom shelled the opposing goal with numerous shots but were held at bay by the spirited play of Europa's GoalKeeper, who single handedly kept the game from being a route. After 4 straight shut-outs, the man-of-the-match honors go to the entire defense who have allowed only 1 shot on goal in our last 2 matches: Courtney Strange,Q, Mike McClure, Simon, Scott and Justin. The opposition knows that Team Venom is capable of scoring goals in bunches, but we have now established ourselves as a team that doesn't allow the oppositions offense to get on track...Watch out FC Nippon - We've been waiting for for this next one!!! .

Sand Dragons 3 v. Vipers 1
Our second annual inter-club O35 Division match up was played last Sunday with the Sand Dragons winning the match 3 - 1 over the Vipers.

The Dragons got their first score midway through the first half after a barrage of shots and saves. After a beautiful cross into the Vipers box Geordie Wood had a brilliant header that was saved by Viper keeper James Cagle but deflected off the crossbar and came back into play. Players were everywhere trying to get their foot on the ball. Lano Torres hit the upright and sent the ball back into the melee where Al Damas got his foot onto the ball and put it into the back of the net for the first score of the game.

It was a well played game for the Vipers in the first half and up to the 65th minute as the Vipers kept the game at 1-0. Both teams had opportunities with the Sand Dragons getting the lions share of the play.

In the 66th minute Geordie Wood put a well placed volley past a diving James Cagle for what was to be the game winner.

Mark Chambers later got the Vipers on the score sheet from a through ball by the Vipers keeper as his shot nutmeg'd the Sand Dragon's keeper for the Vipers only goal.

The final goal for the Sand Dragons came about 5 minutes later on a confident finish by the Sand Dragon's leading goal scorer, Lano Torres.

With 5 minutes left in the match the Vipers put on their final efforts as John Ridgway connected to a well timed cross into the area heading the ball on goal but was stopped by the Sand Dragon keeper, Goge Johl who spread eagle'd in air and reached John's header with an outstretched toe.

An excellent game all around, the Men of the Match were: Mark Chambers for the Vipers and Geordie Wood gets his second Man of the Match in a row for the Sand Dragons.

Vipers 1 v. Sand Dragons 3
see recap above

Cobras 0 v. Maccabi 2
The Cobras played a decent game today but came up short, losing 0 – 2. The team took the field without key playmakers John Karsnitz, Ziad Kaakouch, Stephen Desjardins and Franklin Young who was injured in the morning Vipers Dragons game. There were good efforts put forth all over the field and in fact the Cobras had several opportunities to score in the second half but the lads couldn’t find net. Steve Burns and Spencer Brown had their usual game today, controlling play in the middle of the field and team Captain Dennis Verheijde and Igor Kwiatkowski are also mentioned because of their tough play at sweep and stopper, respectively. But the player of the game goes to Leslie Oberlander. Laz had his best game so far this season, getting to the ball ahead of the opposition and moving the ball up the wing efficiently. He stayed goal-side and basically shut down the opponent’s offensive capability on his side of the field. Well done Laz! Man of the Match. At this point, the only thing holding back the Cobras is timing. They simply need all their players available and healthy on the same day.
Venom 2 v. Lawless 0
Team Venom, "The Reds", earned their 3rd straight "clean sheet", by beating Lawless 2-0. The game was stopped early in the 2nd half due to a serious head injury to one of the Lawless players that resulted in their player being transported by ambulance to the hospital, and left our own Justin McLemore needing stitches in his forehead. Our thoughts go out to both players, and we wish them both a speedy recovery. Player of the match honors go to Neil Ellefsen who scored both of our goals...

Sunday October 13th 2002
Sand Dragons 1 v. Samba 3
The match started well for the Sand Dragons as they dominated the first 15 minutes missing a few sure goals during the run of play. About mid way through the first half Lano Torres was brutally fouled in the opponents penalty box and Andrew Pascoe converted the PK hitting the upper left netting. Exactly seven minutes later Samba was awarded a PK as a Dragon defender was caught pushing his mark during a throw in. Goalkeeper Goge Johl saved the penalty and the score remained 1-0 until the 70th minute. The Dragon's opponent scored two goals in the last 20 minutes of play with the 3rd coming a minute from the end of the match. Several players had a good match despite the loss. Among the stand outs were Lano Torres, Al Romero, Andy Pascoe & Mike Perea. Prior to the last 20 minutes Keeper, Goge Johl was well on his way to being the man of the match. However for consistent play in the midfield, both offensively and defensively, this week's Man of the Match goes to the Sand Dragon's midfielder Geordie Wood.
Vipers 1 v. Longbows 4
The Viper squad continues to battle through another tough season. Prior to the match, they were tied at the bottom of the standings with Payson FC and the Longbows. The Longbow team added a few new players this season, to include a speedster or two. At the half the game was only 0 – 1 but most of it was played on the Viper end. Fast breaks presented opportunities and the Longbows capitalized. However the Vipers do improve each week and this week was no exception. Passing in the middle of the field was improved. Possession time increased. They won more 50 / 50 balls. In fact the second half was played mostly on the Longbow end of the field. But in the end, the Longbows took home the points. Several players had good games to include, Mark ‘Ski, Scott, Franklin and Dave but Mark Jensen gets the player of the game for getting Vipers on the board and preventing the shutout. Vipers will put points on the board… it’s only a matter of time.
Cobras 0 v. Guiness FC 3
The Cobras played a fantastic game against one of the toughest teams in the division, Guiness FC. The Guiness team has been around for years and it’s players know each other well from past SUASL and indoor seasons. They won the last five indoor league seasons. Zack and John were back off injury and really made a difference. Franklin and Spencer gave us possession and threat. Up to the 65th minute the Cobras had two substitutes, then Jason twisted his ankle. With only one player to give breaks the team fatigued rapidly. The game remained nil all until the 72nd minute. Players gave all they had but it wasn’t enough. Well done to all for a nicely played match but John gets the Cobra player of the game for is superb play and excellent control of the defense, holding Guiness at bay for so long.
Venom 8 v. Centurions 0
Team Venom, "The Reds", are starting to fire on all cylinders, and are no longer making the mistake of playing down to the competition. In a game against an undermatched opponent today, The Venom team poured it on until the end, resulting in a sound 8-0 thrashing and another well earned victory. Goal scorers today were: Scotty Merrill (1), James LaBar (1), Damien Daher (1), Neil Ellefsen (1), Jimmy Deutsch (2), and Justin McLemore(2). It was another blank sheet for the defense who never allowed a shot on goal in either half. Player of the match goes to Justin McLemore, who is starting to find his game again after missing a few during the middle of the season...

Sorry...no further archives earlier than this....there was a fire...
